Congratulations Jayden Stevens for being chosen as HomeTech’s Student of the Month! Danielle DiPiertro-Hawkins speaks not only for herself but for other teachers at HomeTech when she says, “It’s my pleasure to nominate Jayden for recognition of his leadership qualities this year. As a student in my Paradise Outreach and Advanced Culinary classes, he sets those around him at ease with his confidence and leads by example. He makes others feel comfortable through his calm yet excitable presence and enjoys helping others. This Fall, Jayden volunteered to take part in the Phoenix 5K fundraiser. He doesn’t run regularly and it was to be his first race, but he participated with enthusiasm! He also volunteered to be on HomeTech’s Charter School renewal committee, involving a long process of meetings, reflective discussions, and goal setting. Outside of school, Jayden regularly volunteers at events associated with the veterans and veterans' hall. I’ve enjoyed having Jayden as a student and seeing his positive influence on others. I know that everyone at Hometech appreciates his contributions.” We really do!! Congratulations Jayden and Merry Christmas! Leadership qualities is what HomeTech’s teachers looked for in nominating Student of the Month, and Danielle DiPietro-Hawkins didn’t hesitate to nominate Ben Buckhout for several reasons: “Throughout the past semester as a student in my Paradise Outreach class, Ben Buckhout has continually demonstrated qualities of a leader. He listens intently to instructions, and follows them diligently. He's interested in doing things that may be uncomfortable because he wants to grow. For example, when I asked the students to call local high schools to inquire about their prom dates, Ben immediately volunteered. He also volunteered to take part in the Phoenix 5K fundraiser this Fall, even though he's not an avid runner and it was to be his first race. He has stellar grades, and a job outside of school, which demonstrates his motivation and responsibility. Because of these leadership qualities, Ben was asked to be the student representative at HomeTech's school board meetings. Lastly, Ben volunteered to be on HomeTech's charter school renewal committee in order to assist the school in an arduous process. It's been a pleasure to get to know Ben this year. I know that he will have much success in life and will be able to meet the goals that he sets for himself.” Congratulations Ben and Merry Christmas!

Congratulations Aroara Moon for being nominated by Aquina Seher as HomeTech’s Student of the Month! Aquina said, “Aroara has regularly exhibited leadership qualities in elementary enrichment and other classes. Every time there is a new or slightly nervous student in our enrichment group, she reassures the student and is very friendly, such that the student becomes more comfortable. Aroara includes everyone in our small group and even praises absent students to those who are in class (if those students have never met before). I am grateful for her taking the initiative to foster positive interactions with peers!” Again, Congratulations Aroara! He has a willingness to speak up, to be seen, but more importantly to listen and reflect upon that which is occurring around him. Furthermore, Justin is taking his life's challenges and experiences and turning them into his superpowers, which exemplifies a leader: one who does not let hardship break them, but rather make them into something better than they were before.” Congratulations Justin! HomeTech’s Student of the Month character trait for October’s was Gratitude and two teachers, Tina Hamm and Maxwell Hinchliff, both recognized how deserving Shane Heinke is of this recognition: “Shane practices gratitude everyday that he arrives on campus. This was not always the case! As a freshman, the last place in the world he wanted to be was in a classroom, and the last people he wanted to listen to were teachers. Shane has since transformed himself into a polite, considerate young man who is willing to learn. His "thank you" to us takes the form of effort from him. He asks focused questions about assignments, listens to explanations, and takes responsibility for work completion, all with the slightest smile on his face. In all of these ways and more, Shane acknowledges the gestures of care offered to him and appreciates the things that are going well in his life. It is with my gratitude, that I award him with this recognition.” “At one point I mentioned to Shane that I'm always happy to offer him support on his schoolwork since he was always willing to seek out support and ask questions about assignments. To which he responded something along the lines of "If you smile at someone they're more likely to smile back". Not only does Shane advocate for himself but when spoken to he shows the utmost respect and truly tries to understand what you're explaining to him. Aside from schoolwork Shane also has a very appreciative attitude towards everything in life. Shane truly does exemplify what it means to have gratitude.” Congratulations Shane! Congratulations Thomas Martin for being nominated by your teacher Danielle DiPietro-Hawkins as HomeTech’s Student of the Month! Danielle said, “Every day that Thomas is at school, he's enthusiastic, engaged, and shows gratitude for being at Hometech. As a student in my Intro to Spanish class, he's the first to volunteer answers or read aloud, and enjoys engaging in class discussions. In my culinary class, he readily participates not only in all cooking procedures, but in cleaning up as well. The thing that I've come to appreciate the most about Thomas is his open-mindedness and receptivity to guidance. If he needs to correct a behavior or an action, he's quick to acknowledge this, reflect, and make the change. The ability to do this at his age shows maturity and self-awareness beyond his years. It's a pleasure to have Thomas in my classes and part of Hometech!” Thank you to Red Lion Pizza in Magalia for supporting HomeTech's students' successes by giving them a personal pizza and soda!

It is very clear why Jacie Rogers was chosen by two of her teachers as HomeTech’s Student of the Month. Gail Kemp and Danielle DiPietro-Hawkins had these great things to say about Jacie: “Jacie consistently shows kindness and compassion towards others, whether it is providing a helping hand with solving a problem, checking in on an upset friend, or being tolerant of others. Jacie encourages those around her to persevere and it is evident how much she believes in others’ capabilities. Each day Jacie arrives at HomeTech she brings a positive attitude and sets an example of what caring for others looks like. Thank you Jacie for being the kind and compassionate young person that you are!” “Jacie is always looking out for others, and ways that she can help those in need. When it snowed last year, she and Colby went around knocking on people's doors volunteering to shovel driveways for free. One grateful woman called them, 'angels'. She regularly cooks large meals for her entire family, volunteers in various ways in the community such as with events for the veterans, and is never too busy to help out a friend. It's a pleasure to have Jacie as a student in Paradise Outreach as well as Advanced Culinary, and I respect the kind and compassionate person she is.”
