    Paradise Outreach

    Connections and community are emphasized through a variety of volunteer projects both within our school and with various organizations throughout the town of Paradise.

    Health & Fitness

    Not only will students develop an intellectual understanding in the classroom of the main aspects of health, they will strengthen their bodies through weekly workout sessions at Paradise Stronger. Emphasis is on the importance of and connection between physical, mental and social health.

  • Students working with wood

    Woodworking

    This hands-on course introduces students to woodworking through safe and effective use of hand tools and small power tools. Students will complete a sequence of increasingly complex projects while learning key skills such as measuring, cutting, sanding, joining, and finishing.

  • Teacher and students working in ceramics class

    Ceramics

    In this course we will learn about the basic properties of clay. Plasticity of clay versus leather hard clay. Bone dry versus bisque fired. We will also learn different glaze techniques and the difference between glaze, underglaze, and overglaze. We will also learn basic building techniques: pinch forming, building with slabs, building with coils. Several small projects will be assigned for you to explore and experiment with. We will also cover wheel throwing on the potters wheel and the student will be given the opportunity to "throw" pottery. The student will learn how to “center” and “throw” on the potters wheel and how to trim the bottom to create a well formed bowl. During the second semester we will move into a more artistic mode. We will study different ceramic artist and move into projects that will allow your skill and creativity to shine through.

    Cultural Cuisine

    Through preparing recipes from a variety of world cultures, students will develop a better understanding and appreciation of these countries. Emphasis is on openness to new flavors, sanitary food preparation and clean-up, and cooperation.

  • Sushi rolls

    Culinary Arts

    Working cohesively in small groups, students will learn food preparation and cooking skills, as well as best kitchen cleaning practices. Units are based on popular and healthy foods.

    Spanish 1

    Fulfilling the Fine Arts and A-G college prep requirements, students will learn basic skills in reading, writing and speaking in Spanish. Emphasis is on communication and culture, through developing practical skills, and focusing on various Latin American countries.

    This second year of Spanish studies utilizes knowledge acquired in Spanish 1 to continue to develop and refine skills involving reading, writing and speaking in Spanish. Emphasis and requirements are in alignment with Spanish 1.
